Rock'em Sock'em

So our company just got a 3D printer today and they wanted me of all people to make an AutoDesk Inventor model to print out. I think I made a pretty awesome replica of a Rock'em Sock'em robot fight. I wish my job was solely to make dumb things like this and print 3D models of them because it's incredibly fun. Every part is printed separately and then you spend an hour trying to put all the little pieces together to look like this.

This is what it looked like in the computer when put together in AutoDesk. I walked into our meeting standing tall with my intern behind me and started showing off my model. Apparently I'm terrible at putting things together and no one even knew what I was trying to make. My 3D model was promptly thrown into the trashcan. I told everyone that the intern put it together and I only made the model on the computer. But don't you feel bad about my intern because I promised him a pale of ice cream tomorrow. Kids will sell out for all most anything these days.... He probably would of took the blame for a Klondike bar.

What I Learned Today
Your intern might make fun of your fractured knee and crack dumb video game jokes all day but when It comes down to intern or no intern. My answer will always be intern because you are able to blame everything on them and if they call you a liar you can give them the boot.

Intern: Hey how did you break your knee? :3
Me: I got in a freak accident.
Intern: So did you take an arrow to your knee?
Me: I should of seen this coming....

Looks like a fun project. Maybe tell your intern how insanely fun sledding in a pool is.

Whoah I didn't think they actually applied 3D printers to workplaces yet, I saw a video of one on youtube and it looked cool as hell.

I used to read blogs..till I took an arrow to the knee..

I was at a gamestop not to long ago and there were several kids in there making arrow jokes. Then after I left I hit up a subway and same thing.

Think of all the evil and dastardly schemes you could get your intern to do on your behalf. 3D models of rock em sock em is only the beginning!

Too bad you can't do that to interns.

To be fair that was a great use of "arrow to the knee"

I too wish my job was to make 3d pictures of toys I used to play with. That sounds so nice...

Teddi said... Reply To This Comment

you're not playing well with others mr. accountant. were you ever an intern?

Anthony said... Reply To This Comment

I will have to go look it up...when was the rock 'em sock 'em robot game introduced/sold?

@Suzanne When we reach the point where 3-D printers are capable of producing ready made human organs using stem cells and scaffolding cell material, they will move from "dumb" to a medical necessity.

Brian Miller said... Reply To This Comment

ha...used interns all the time before...swear by them...if you invest in them they will work harder than most workers...

Your model looked brilliant! I'm a foreigner and even I knew exactly what it was meant to be. Ignorant bastards! I'm sorry it was binned!

I must admit, I'd do anything for a Klondike Bar, too! (Filthy little over eater!) They look amazing! We don't get them here. The ad's for them are hilarious, like WWJD... for a Klondike bar? The t-shirts are choice! I want one!

No offense, but your intern sounds like something out of Napoleon Dynamite! I wonder if he has any awesome nunchuck skills! Go on, abuse the little fucker! :)

Nice. My highschool had a 3D printer. I got to use it for a project.

It was awesome haha. Thanks for the comments!

Interns are baller, eh? An arrow to the knee joke though? Needs to be blamed for something after that one, good job. Keep up the good work.

Lynda R Young said... Reply To This Comment

maybe the intern stole your sweetroll ;)

This week toys, next week, genitals!

Awesome idea though. Shame your bosses obviously don't have a sense of humour.

JOutlaw said... Reply To This Comment

did he actually say that? I hope you stared at him until he shriveled up into a little ball and started shivering and whimpering that the Bragons are coming for him!

Nathan said... Reply To This Comment

I always wanted one of those...

Alucard0691 said... Reply To This Comment

I've heard that Obama REQUIRES all the White House interns to be Atheist satan worshipers. It's a required field on their application.

BragonDorn said... Reply To This Comment

@The Angry Lurker In Ohio all I had to do was hang up fliers in a college. I got around 20 calls in the first day. I choose the first kid that said Mr.... You couldn't believe the calls I was getting.. One kid called and said "Whazup im jus callin bout dat intern posish! It still open homie?" I immediately hung up on that crazy screw ball.

Shallee said... Reply To This Comment

Ha! That sounds like a fun day at work. It would be awesome if that were your whole job. :)

And I love your intern's "arrow to the knee" response...I love that Skyrim has already started worming its way through the world like that.

BragonDorn said... Reply To This Comment

@Teddi Yah I was an intern before and it is one of the worst experiences of my life. I got coffee for the entire company all day everyday for about 16 months and sat on a stool the entire time there...

I am treating my intern like a saint in comparison to how I was treated as an intern. I don't even let him do work for anyone but me. Why should he get coffee for a lawyer? He is here to learn a thing or two about accounting. Jeff can find his own intern! lol :)

T. Roger Thomas said... Reply To This Comment

I think a 3-D printer sounds like a really cool thing to own.

Also, remember that if you get yourself an employee who doesn't speak English you can always blame things on her/ him. Thank The Simpsons for that bit of wisdom.

Your model doesn't suck.

Slam Dunk said... Reply To This Comment

Funny stuff.

I used to work with mutliple interns and I agree--they are great to have around at least to take the fall for something. I guess they always got me back after I was always listed first as a reference which meant lots of calls, letters, and essays for jobs or grad schools.

j-tony said... Reply To This Comment

3D printer sounds way cool. Can't wait to check one out.

kbbuddingwriter said... Reply To This Comment

Man, can't the world get over the 'take an arrow to the knee' joke? It's for scraping, not for taking arrows.

Shaw said... Reply To This Comment

wish you had taken a photo of the finished thing, even if it was bad

DWei said... Reply To This Comment

I'd find this more funny if I wasn't on my way to becoming an intern myself. :P

We don't have interns in England, we have apprenticeships but they tend to be on building sites risking their necks.
